BIBLE HILL – It’s time to break out your tartan for the inaugural Colchester Highland Games and Gathering.

The Airport Ball Fields on Jennifer Drive in Bible Hill will be full of traditional elements of a Scottish Highland Games on Sept. 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors will see the caber toss, hammer throw, Gallus Gael historical re-enactment, highland dance competition, pipe band and solo piping competitions, tug ‘o’ war, dog agility display, kids races and obstacle course, bike races, youth pipes and drums workshop, craft fair, food trucks, traditional sideshows, and a live music stage with Clann An Drumma from Glasgow, Scotland, Greene School of Irish Dance, Tayla Kelly (Scottish vocalist and dancer), Good Time Fiddlers, and Drum Runners.

Parking on site will be for VIPs and those with disabilities.

On Sept. 8, an opening reception will be held at the civic square in Truro, where the Colchester Nova Scotia tartan will be unveiled. There are a number of things planned for the opening ceremony, including performances and dancing. It begins at 6:30 p.m.
