TRURO – The local Rotary club is hosting its fifth annual Bollywood night Sept. 21.

The Rotary Club of Truro and the Khanna family – Om and Meena, their son, Sanjay, and wife, Kavita – are coming together again to host the event at the Holiday Inn Truro.

Although the evening will feature East Indian cuisine, music and dancing, it is first and foremost a fundraiser that will support the Rotary Club’s work in assisting local children who have physical and developmental challenges.

The Khannas approached the club four years ago with an idea and a desire to give something back to the community that welcomed them so warmly more than four decades ago. They worked with the club to select charities to receive proceeds from the event. More than $25,000 has been raised at the last four Bollywood nights, and these funds have gone to the Colchester Community Workshops and the CCW Foundation, Third Place Transition House Association, Maggie’s Place, and Camp Tidnish.

This year’s funds will be used to send additional individuals to Camp Gencheff next summer, and to support the ongoing work of the club in the community.

This year’s event will include a silent auction and “Heads or Tails ” game, which is expected to bring in additional funds for the cause.

The majority of tickets have been sold, but a few still remain available for purchase. For more information, including how to get tickets, visit www.rotarycluboftruro.ca.
