DEBERT – A Brookfield man has been arrested and charged for an armed robbery that occurred in Debert in May 2017.

Following a nine-month investigation, Colchester District RCMP arrested the man in relation to the May 23, 2017, armed robbery of a convenience store in Debert.

At approximately 8:50 p.m. May 23, Colchester District RCMP received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery in progress at a convenience store near Plains Road. Two men, one of whom had a firearm, entered the store and demanded money, cigarettes and lottery tickets. Two employees tried to stop the men from stealing and were assaulted by them. The men fled the store with more than $2,000. The employees had minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The man was remanded into custody and appeared in Truro provincial court on Feb. 20. He was charged with robbery with a firearm and was released on a recognizance.

The investigation is ongoing.
