TRURO – Heroes and Adventurers is hosting a new, free program at the library in Truro.
The Miniature Wargames Program is a free, safe, inclusive, and supported program that uses miniature war games like Warhammer to develop critical life skills. It’s open to anyone aged 19 or older, and will run every Thursday, 5:30-8 p.m., at the Colchester-East Hants Public Library Truro branch.
Do you enjoy playing games of strategy like Risk, Axis & Allies, and chess? Are you interested in role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons? Do you like painting or crafting?
If you answered yes to any of these, you may want to check out the Miniature Wargames Program.
The program’s foundations are similar to those of the highly successful Heroes and Adventurers Role-playing Game Program. They are based on well-established elements of human learning. A primary component is the process known as interest-based learning, or play-based learning. This is when participants may be unaware they are learning as they are having fun. Participants develop skills in:
- fine motor skills
- social interactions
- team building
- problem solving
- turn taking
It can be challenging to get into miniature wargaming because of factors such as cost, game complexity or finding the space in which to play with others. The Miniature Wargames Program aims to remove these barriers and create a friendly space to enjoy the activity.
