Christmas show and sale to benefit Colchester Food Bank

Every year, Brittany Matthews hears how the Colchester Food Bank struggles to meet its demand, especially during the holiday season.
This year, she decided to do something about it. Working for a direct sales company, Matthews called upon others in the same field to organize a Christmas show and sale that would be a win-win-win in her eyes.
“There will be an admission charge to get into the show,” said Matthews. “It can either be $1 or a non-perishable food item. Either way, it will go to the food bank. I’ve also asked the vendors who have agreed to participate to donate a portion of their sales to the food bank. I knew early on that the food bank needs some additional help during the last couple of months of the year, so I figured this was one way to help out.”
In addition to the food bank benefitting from the show, Matthews, who works for Scentsy, says the vendors participating in the show will benefit from increased exposure. Because of that, she’s had a good response from those she’s contacted.
“Right now, we have 10 different vendors confirmed for the show,” said Matthews. “I expect that number to go up by the time the show rolls around. I’m waiting for confirmation from others and I’m also looking at contacting a few other individuals who aren’t necessarily connected to a direct sales company. There are some people who still work from home doing crafts and that type of thing who could play a role in this show as well.”
The shoppers can also be winners at this show. With Christmas just around the corner, Matthews believes the event will be a great spot for people to kick off, continue or wrap up their holiday shopping. Best of all, they can do it all under one roof.
“They’re going to see a wide variety of products in one spot,” she said. “And these are things you don’t see all the time when you’re out. Most of our vendors will have some cash and carry items, but customers will also be able to place orders as well. I see it as a good chance for people to get out, have some fun and support a good cause.”
The show will be held Saturday, November 26, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Truro Fire Hall. In addition to Scentsy products, customers can find items from Epicure Spice, Mary Kay, Lia Sophia Jewelry and the Pampered Chef.
“My company encourages generosity and giving back,” said Matthews. “I know the last couple of months can be difficult for the food bank, so I thought it was a good place to give to as we all prepare for the holiday rush.”
