BELMONT –  A 60-year old man died after being shot in a tragic hunting accident that occurred in a wooded area near Rifle Range Road on Nov. 19.

RCMP responded to the accident and an initial investigation determined the victim and a 41-year-old man were hunting in the area. They were following a deer and became separated.

The younger man shot at what he thought was the deer, and accidentally caused a fatal injury to the victim. Police and Emergency Health Services paramedics attended the scene and were not able to revive the older man.

The incident is being investigated by the RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crimes Unit. RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Colchester District RCMP assisted at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
