Caution tape surrounds the side of a house on East Prince Street in Truro after a man died while working on the residence. A wall collapsed on the man.

TRURO – A man died Wednesday after a wall he was working on at a residence collapsed.

Scott Nauss, the senior director of Compliance and Inspection Services with the Department of Labour and Advanced Education, said the department received a report that an employee sustained fatal injuries at the work site.

“We are very preliminary into our investigation,” said Nauss. “We had reports that an employee was fatally injured. He was working on the foundation of a home that had some excavation work done previously and the wall collapsed.”

The residence, located at 1132 Prince St., is under a stop work order until an engineering assessment can be done.

Nauss said the assessment is to see if the building is “structurally sound”.

“The stop work order could be lifted once we have that engineering assessment done, but that could take hours or it could take days,” he said. “Work could resume once that is complete and shows the other employees are not at risk.”

Nauss said the department’s investigation could take some time, possibly even up to two years time.

The name and age of the man has not been released.
