BIBLE HILL – A 31-year-old man from Ontario is facing charges after fleeing police by jumping in a river.
The man has been charged with obstruction and driving while revoked. He was to appear in provincial court in Truro on the afternoon of Nov. 5.
During a check point on Main Street, Bible Hill, on Nov. 3, Colchester District RCMP members directed a man driving a truck without a licence to pull into an adjacent parking lot. The 31-year-old male driver fled the check point.
A short time later, police officers located the truck abandoned at a nearby parking lot. The Truro Police K-9 unit was called to assist and the driver was located hiding on the bank of Salmon River. As police approached the man, he jumped into the river and began swimming to the other side. Local fire departments, Colchester, East Hants and Pictou Ground Search and Rescue crews, and Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forestry were contacted to assist.
The man turned himself into police on Nov. 5.
