TRURO – For the past three decades, Stephanie MacNeil has found a passion in the Seth Material, and now wants to share her findings locally.
The Seth Material is a body of work “channeled” by Jane Roberts from 1963 to 1984. The teachings of the material are based on the principles that consciousness creates matter and each person creates his or her own reality through thoughts, beliefs, and expectations.
“I have always been interested in the unseen and the psychic phenomenon,” admitted MacNeil. “It was around 1972 when the first Seth book came into my life – it was given to my mother by a friend. But at the time, I was thinking it was too heavy for me, and I put it into the bookcase.”
It was 14 years later when MacNeil’s life hit a low point and she knew she needed a change.
“At that time, I had met a man who is now my husband who was into self-discovery and figuring out how we tick, and how the world works,” she said. “He was what I was looking for my whole life. I gave him that Seth book.”
Roberts, a published poet and author, had an out of body experience in 1963. It was her first connection with a non-physical being who called himself ‘Seth’. Roberts purchased a Ouija board and very quickly started getting words in her head before they were on the board.
Twice weekly from that point up until 1984, Roberts held sessions and channeled Seth, and ended up publishing books, including the Seth Study.
MacNeil said she and her husband had also purchased a Ouija board, and she, herself, had a similar experience, before learning about Roberts’.
“It was a different spiritual guide,” said MacNeil, about her experience. “Where I was in my life, I didn’t trust myself to continue – I couldn’t let it happen. Nevertheless, we’ve had groups of friends over the years who have also studied the Seth Material.”
MacNeil said the Seth Material has “revolutionized” her life.
“The person I used to be was negative, a victim, and martyr. I didn’t know how to take responsibility. But the Seth Material healed things within me that needed to be healed, and has answered every question I’ve had. I get it now. I have a passion for it.”
She said the Seth Material was something she knew would form her understanding of life, and that’s why she wants to share it with anyone interested. She’s hosting an eight-week discussion circle starting in September for participants to learn to become a conscious co-creator of their life.
“It’s the spiritual life I want to live. I hope people can understand the quality of the material that speaks to me, and help change lives.”
MacNeil’s sessions will run on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Sept. 5 to Oct. 24 at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. Cost is $50 per person, and seating is limited. Pre-registration is required.
