Truro – The town of Truro has launched a skate drive.

The Civic Square Skate Drive 2017 is designed to collect ice skates for use at the Civic Square outdoor skating rink. Opening in this month, the skating rink will be available for public use free of charge.

“Our goal is to accumulate enough skates to loan to anyone needing a pair – free of charge. We want all residents to be able to use the facility,” says Shannon Jarvis, active community co-ordinator for the town of Truro.

Gently used skates can be dropped off at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. To organize a pickup of skates from a business or organization, email sjarvis@truro.ca. The Civic Square Skate Drive will run until the end of February.

If individuals have skates in the basement that no longer fit, are collecting dust and taking up space, this is an opportunity to clear out the clutter and put them to good use. Children, youth and inexperienced skaters will all benefit from a donation.

When the outdoor skating season has ended, the collected skates will be organized and maintained for use in future seasons!
