WESTPHAL – A 24-year-old Truro man was the victim of a fatal shooting with police outside Cole Harbour over the weekend.

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating the shooting, which occurred May 26 in Westphal.

At approximately 8 a.m. May 26, Halifax District RCMP responded to a weapons call in a home involving the 24-year-old man, who fled the home and entered a wooded area.

In a press release issued by SiRT, a confrontation occurred when officers attempted to locate the man. The confrontation resulted in officers discharging their firearms.

The suspect was found deceased at the scene.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Felix Cacchione.
